Tattoo Removal

How does it work?
The technology used for tattoo removal procedures is called ‘Q-Switching’. It is production of a specific type of quick, powerful pulse that shatter tattoo ink without harming surrounding tissue.
A lot of other types of aesthetic lasers will not safely and effectively remove tattoos – Q-switched lasers are the only proven method for removing tattoos safely and without scarring.
Different colours of tattoo ink absorb different wavelengths of energy meaning that tattoo removal practitioners switch between different wavelengths of energy when treating their clients.
The go-to laser is the Nd:Yag because it can produce the most versatile wavelengths: 1064 x 532nm. The 1064nm is the powerhouse for treating black, blue and other dark colours; the 532nm effectively removes red, orange, pink and other bright colours.
These two powerful wavelengths can completely remove 95% of tattoos.
What areas can be treated?
In the majority of cases wherever a tattoo has been applied we will be able to treat it. During your initial consultation we will go through all the detail and make sure treatment ultimately is safe to do and get results.
What results can I expect?
In many cases, yes. Greater than 95 percent fading of the tattoo may be accomplished. However it is important to know that there are many types of tattoo inks used today. Not knowing which tattoo ink was used, or how deeply it was applied, makes it impossible for your laser specialist to predict the degree of removal on any given tattoo.
Are you eligible for this treatment?
Tattoo removal is not suitable for everyone. Some of the common contraindications where we would not conduct the treatment are listed below. However we will go through this in your initial consultation.
- Cellulitis (MRSA)

- Lichen Planus
- Lichen Nitidus
- Renal Failure (Acute or Chronic)
- Malignancy
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Vitiligo
- Immunosuppression
- Keloids
- Certain Medications (i.e.Accutane (if used within the last year))
- Collagen Vascular Diseases
